My Experience, Qualifications, and Certifications
Choosing the right trainer matters. You're trusting someone with your health, your time, and your effort.
I’ve been coaching people full-time for over a decade, helping hundreds of clients improve their strength, lose fat, reduce pain, and regain confidence in their bodies.
Below is a straightforward overview of my experience, certifications, and the kind of work I’ve been doing since 2013.
Certifications and Professional Credentials
I earned my personal training certification through the National Strength and Conditioning Association in 2013. The NSCA-CPT is widely considered one of the gold-standard certifications in the fitness industry.
In 2015 I earned my second certification through CrossFit by completing the CrossFit Level 1 Trainer course.
I pursued this certification to further develop my niche as a functional trainer.
In 2015 I also earned my "APK L2" certification through the American Parkour Academy. Which made me high enough in the discipline of functional movement to be a "teacher of teachers".
My philosophy is simple: humans need all types of fitness training to stay strong, capable, and healthy for life. Strength, endurance, mobility, balance, and coordination all matter.
What Clients Say
If you read the Motivate Me Mike Google reviews from over the years, you'll quickly learn the most important thing about my business:
I motivate people, and I help them get real results.
That has always been the core mission of what I do.
Personal Training Experience
Within a year of getting certified, I built a full-time personal training client base, and I’ve been training people full-time ever since.
At this point I’ve coached thousands of personal training sessions with clients of all ages and ability levels.
Over the years I’ve helped people:
lose fat
gain strength
improve mobility
reduce joint pain
regain confidence in their bodies
Client Stories
It’s been a long time and I’ve worked with many different people with many different goals.
I haven’t documented every success story, but I did take the time to share 10 client stories that show the types of progress people have made here. Hopefully you’ll see someone you relate to and feel encouraged about what’s possible.
Helping People With Health Conditions
Every year I work with new clients who have unique challenges or medical conditions.
For example, I’ve helped:
a man with cerebral palsy
multiple stroke survivors
a 93-year-old woman
In every case we measured progress and saw consistent improvement.
These are people who would likely never feel comfortable walking into a normal gym. Helping people like this is one of the biggest reasons Motivate Me Mike exists. When the environment is right and the training is individualized, people who once felt stuck can finally start moving forward.
I'm the “Mike” in Motivate Me Mike
I’m not just a trainer who works here — I’m the owner and operator.
I built the studio, run the business, program the training, and coach the clients. I wear every hat here.
I’ve been doing all of it continuously since 2014.
Running a business while still personally delivering results for clients year after year takes a lot of work, but it’s also something I’m very proud of.
Cross-Training and My Summit Strength Program
In 2016 I created my cross-training program called Summit Strength.
The goal of this program is simple: Offer quality of 1-on-1 functional strength training at a more affordable rate, so that more people can participate.
Group Fitness Experience
Since the beginning of my career I’ve also coached group exercise.
Over the years I’ve taught many different types of classes including:
yoga
kickboxing
boot camps
youth fitness
Early in my career I taught at the YMCA in Avon. In 2014 I started my own class called MOVE.
MOVE combines cardio circuit training with stretching and recovery work, creating a fun hybrid class that builds fitness while helping people relax and mobilize.
My Personal Fitness and Wellness
I strongly believe in leading by example.
I was born in 1988, and today my flexibility, endurance, and strength are better than they’ve ever been — even though I’ve had more than my share of injuries and setbacks along the way.
Every year I continue improving my sleep, nutrition, and overall wellness as well.
I will never ask a client to do something that I’m not willing to do myself.
Military Background
Before becoming a full-time trainer, I served 7 years in the Army National Guard.
During that time I became the second fittest soldier in my unit of over 220 soldiers and was eventually put in charge of the unit’s fitness program.
I retired as a Sergeant and served one deployment in Afghanistan as a gun truck gunner, completing over 100 missions and experiencing combat on 3 occasions.
That said, I’m far from the stereotypical hardened soldier type. If anything, my military experience helped reinforce how important health, resilience, and teamwork really are.
In Summary
My goal has always been simple: help people move better, feel stronger, and improve their quality of life.
